Svart Records have teamed up with the Zambian-Finnish ZANGOMA and are proud to release their debut album in January 2025.

In 1996 at the village of Kolomwe in central Zambia there was a young boy called Waina Kolomwe. One day he met the local sangoma, who spoke of a prophecy where Waina had a major part in revamping the legacy of Zamrock in a different time and era. The witch doctor said that “you will meet three rockers from the land of thousand lakes and together you will make history”. The young and naive Waina didn`t believe a word, until years later the prophecy came true and ZANGOMA was born.

ZANGOMA hails from Tampere, Finland and comprises of the Zambian vocalist Waina Kolomwe, singer/guitarist Ville Salonen, singer/bassist Riku Pirttiniemi (Death Hawks, Dust Mountain), and drummer Miikka Heikkinen (Death Hawks). They play Zamrock, a genre that gained popularity in Zambia during the ’70s. It’s a fusion of traditional African music and psychedelic-, garage-, and hard rock with some funk and blues in the mix as well. Bands like Black Sabbath, Funkadelic, The Rolling Stones, Blue Cheer, Cream and Deep Purple had a major part in shaping the music.
