GhostWorld's fourth album, Armadillo Café, is a slice of life depiction of a fictional café, its customers, and staff. The moods of the album change from one person to another, just like the people in the café. The lyrics of the songs consist of amusingly sad, relatable stories. Musically, Armadillo Café is like something straight out of the Gilmore Girls soundtrack at times, while at other times the whole thing is like the best effort of a dusty and forgotten 70s rock band. The full-length was recorded live on reel-to-reel tape under the direction of Aleksi Karppinen, and it was mixed by Graham Hunt, a well-known visionary musician. The whole thing was finished with mastering by Justin Perkins, whose hand can be heard on albums by The Replacements, among others. Ghost World promises that the album will tempt you to bang on air drums and give your friends high-fives.
Ghost World is an alternative rock band founded in Kouvola in 2014. From album to album, their music has lived, stretched and bent into many different forms, while maintaining their recognizable and unique sound. The band's debut, the self-titled album released in 2017, was a whole colored by plenty of fuzz and 90's alternative rock. The second album, Spin, was released the following year in 2018. Musically, the band took a huge leap back into the jangle pop of the 60s, and its light, bright and harmonious worlds. The unique and fresh third album Altar (2020) brought out new, quirky tones from the band. However, the outsider aesthetic, the undertones of slacker rock and the beautiful pop melodies have carried through the band's releases.
Ghost World is Liisa Tani, Tuomas Pulkkinen, Pasi Pöljö and Günter Kivioja.
Svart Records will release Ghost World's Armadillo Café album on May 16th, 2025, on a limited vinyl edition of 200 copies and digitally.
